Ngā Manu Nature Reserve is a nature and wildlife reserve in Waikanae, New Zealand, on the Kapiti Coast of the North Island. In addition to offering a sanctuary for native birds and other animals, the 14 hectares reserve preserves the largest remnant of coastal lowland swamp forest on the Kapiti Coast. Their purpose is to increase awareness and appreciation of the natural world and to promote the study and conservation of New Zealand’s endemic bush, eco systems and wildlife. •Maintain nature reserves in their original natural state with as little modification as can reasonably be achieved and provide reasonable access to the public. •Support and encourage scientific study of endemic native bush, eco systems and wildlife, especially endangered species. •Preserve an arboretum of nationally significant plants. •Participate in and support endangered species recovery programmes. •Maintain a library of high quality “nature images that tell a story”. •Contribute to education of the public and especially students on issues relating to conservation.
