Without our team of volunteers it wouldn’t be possible for the Kāpiti Women’s Centre to offer our services to the wāhine of the Kāpiti Coast. They welcome women to the Centre and over a hot drink they will chat and sit with a woman as she works through her journey, empowering her to work out what she may need to help her on her way.
Our volunteers offer support and a calm listening ear, encouraging women to ask for the help they need; whether it be enrolling for counselling, connecting with other community organizations, or accessing the Kaibosh food service. Our volunteers also work endlessly to keep our free clothing cupboard full of good quality clothes for women and children who need them.
We seek feedback so that we can evaluate our services and make sure we are offering what is needed. Feedback for the food parecels includes the message “Thank you so much for the Kaibosh (food parcels), it has made a huge difference and really helps”. And some evaluations for our counselling service that stuck out were “Amazing service, thank you so much! Life changing :).”
“I am very grateful and thankful, lovely people. Very welcoming and safe environment.” All of this could not happen without the hard work of our amazing volunteers.
The team of volunteers at the Kāpiti Women Centre brings a wealth of wide-ranging knowledge and lived experience that allows them to meet women in crisis where they are at. Each volunteer brings her own personal spin through the extensive 8 week volunteer training course, making the Kāpiti Women’s Centre a welcoming place where women from all walks of life can come and feel supported and heard. Their dedication to the Kapiti Women’s Centre is remarkable.
