Do you enjoy supporting people to take part in activities that are important to them? We are looking for compassionate individuals to assist our organisations day visitors (people with mild cognitive decline/dementia) to take part in wood-working projects. Home4All is a community project where people can enjoy their time with at this home-based centre, feel supported and respected and have a meaningful day. Our visitors have some short-term memory loss but there skills are ok. We function as a family, together we make our own coffee, cakes, lunches and some light housekeeping. As a Wood-Working Buddy, you will assist the visitor in our workshop, helping them to take part in this activity as independently as possible.
Respectful and supportive. Recognise when someone needs assistance and when to step back and let them be independent. Have some wood-work experience. Emotionally, physically and mentally resilient. Positive and friendly. Practical, supportive Ability to work within the routines of the home.
Non-judgmental attitude to others. Previous exposure to people with Dementia would be helpful, but is not a necessity
Please check out our website Home4all.co.nz to find out more about our philosophy and what we do and we recommend you watch ‘The Restaurant that makes mistakes’ TV Show on TVNZ on demand to get an idea about the visitors at Home4All.
