Are you passionate about supporting your community and making it a safer place for residents? Join this friendly team to help create a safer Ōtaki. We are growing our team of volunteer Community Patrollers to increase community awareness and resilience in Ōtaki. Community Patrollers are trained to know what to look out for as they act as extra “eyes and ears” through intelligence and observation for local Police. This is a great role to do with your partner or friend, or sign up as an individual and you will be paired with a patrolling partner.

Full training both online and in the car is provided. Ongoing support will also be provided until you are confident in the role.

Requirements:

Great observation and communication skills (both written and verbal). Comfortable with using a radio (full training will be provided). Must have a Facebook profile or willing to open one (organisation communicates with their volunteers via a private Facebook page). Flexible, friendly, objective and able to interact with a wide variety of people.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Shifts are approx 2 to 4 hours long (depending on your availability) and can be either daylight, twilight or late night.
Training involved completing online modules (approx 2 to 3hours) and a number of ride alongs in the patrol car.
