Here is our Volunteer Story Competition entry from Kāpiti Community Food Bank. Kerry Lovell wrote to us about the Foodbank Kāpiti Volunteer Team.
We have a team of 28 volunteers that help make the Food bank run smoothly. We have an age group from 35 to 85 years, men and women, and together they sort food, pack it, re bottle it, repair it, pick it up, drop it off, stack shelves, unstack shelves, make a mess, clean up and willingly and lovingly hand over food parcels to our clients in the community. They turn up week after week, and even put their hand up if we have a Saturday food drive or fundraiser.
Whatever comes in the door, they will deal with it, a smile on their faces and generosity of heart. The foodbank cannot exist without these wonderful, service orientated bunch of kind people and I am constantly very very proud of them. To serve others, to serve the community.
Without agenda, without want of a reward, to give of self without "I", is true humility in my books.
