Companion and Driver Volunteer

We are looking for a warm, reliable volunteer to provide one-on-one companionship and driving support for a visually impaired woman based in Raumati Beach.
This is a meaningful, ongoing role that makes a real difference to someone's daily independence and quality of life. The person you will support has a fully trained and registered Guide Dog, who will accompany her on all outings.

What You Will Do
• Drive our client to medical appointments, shopping, and other community activities
• Provide friendly one-on-one companionship during outings
• Assist with guiding and orientation using trained basic guiding principles (training provided)
• Interact respectfully and confidently with the client's registered Guide Dog

Requirements:

• Empathy and genuine warmth towards people living with disability
• A female volunteer is preferred for this role (to best match the needs of the client)
• A current, clean New Zealand driver's licence
• Comfort around dogs (the client has a registered Guide Dog)
• Reliability and good communication
• Respect for the client's privacy, dignity, and independence
No prior experience with blindness or disability support is required — we will train you.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

1-4 hours per week. Days by agreement.
