Special Olympics is a global organisation offering sports training and competition for people with an intellectual disability. Special Olympics New Zealand is our national body, liaising with 44 Clubs across North and South Islands. Special Olympics Kapiti has around 50 athletes who train weekly - mainly in ten pin bowling, basketball and football - and who travel to tournaments around the lower North Island.
The Special Olympics Kapiti Trust meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month - usually at the Ocean Road Community Centre in Paraparaumu Beach. Our meetings start at 6.00pm and usually finish by 7.00 to 7.30pm. The Secretary role involves mainly sending out the agenda before our meetings and taking and circulating minutes. The Trustees are a friendly helpful group, and there would be plenty of support if needed.
