Lead an exercise class for older people, designed to improve strength and balance and help prevent falls.
Age Concern Kāpiti hold weekly gentle exercise classes for older people called Steady As You Go. These classes are designed to improve strength and balance in older people and help prevent falls. They are also an opportunity for older people to increase social connection and spark friendships.
We are looking for a volunteer to lead these weekly classes (locations are Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Ōtaki - you can choose your preferred location, subject to availability).
You will be guiding attendees through a combination of sitting, standing and walking exercises and that last for about an hour. Full training and support will be given by Age Concern Kāpiti staff.
Friendly and patient. Enjoy working with older people and comfortable talking in front of groups.
Great verbal communication skills and a good sense of humour.
You do not need any previous exercise instructor experience, just a willingness to learn and be able to demonstrate the exercises to the class.
Classes are held once a week during Term time (10 week terms). Time and day to be confirmed with Age Concern Kāpiti depending on your and the venues availability (but not Wednesdays).
Classes are 50 minutes long. Your commitment will be 1.5 to hours each week.
Term 1: 3 Feb to 11 April
Term 2: 28 April to 27 June
Term 3: 14 July to 19 Sept
Term 4: 5 Oct to 19 Dec
