Walking Companion

Do you like to walk and be social? You can do both as a companion walker! Feel good by making a difference in someone’s life, while at the same time getting out in the community. If you can commit up to an hour a week to walk with an older person then we would love to hear from you.

The Companion Walking Service assists older people by matching volunteers to go walking with them. If you are friendly, understanding of the needs of older people and enjoy the benefits of walking then you are perfect for this role.
Our clients are based in Waikanae and Ōtaki.

Requirements:
  • Mature (volunteers must be 18 years or older)
  • Reliable
  • Commitment to one hour a week
  • Friendly
  • Confidentiality
  • Patient
  • Fit for walking (gentle)
  • Respectful of others’ customs and points of view

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

1 hour per week at a time that suits you both
