Make visitors feel welcome to the Kapiti Coast Museum and help orientate them regarding what the Museum has to offer. You don't need to be an expert on local history, but will learn on the job according to your own wishes. Areas of interest might include: the domestic, educational, social, occupational, transportation, telecommunications or military life of early Waikanae and Kapiti. Museum Hosts can enrich the experience of each visitor, young or old, with their own blend of knowledge and interest.
The organisation is currently interested in finding volunteers that are available once a month on Friday, Saturday or Sunday afternoons. Volunteers who wish to contribute further by helping to set up new displays or maintain Museum systems are also very welcome.
An induction will be provided and you will always be on duty with another volunteer.
a) A keenness to welcome visitors and help them to enjoy the Museum experience.
b) As a host to visitors to the Museum volunteers should enjoy meeting and chatting to people from NZ and overseas about our displayed items and exhibits.
c) A helpful attribute would be to have an interest in local Kapiti history and the lives of people in days gone by.
d) Imagination and creativity are positive attributes for those interested in contributing beyond hosting duties to new exhibit design and installation.
e) As the Museum's collection includes ham radio equipment, telephones, and early sound equipment such as gramophones, we would welcome hosts with specific knowledge and interest in these old technologies.
Rostered shifts available Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm. Beyond these fixed timings volunteers may wish to offer their help outside these normal opening hours.
