Volunteer Visitors Age Concern Kāpiti - 2023 Volunteer Story Comp

I would like to nominate my awesome team of volunteer visitors at Age Concern Kāpiti.

We have 52 visitors in total, I match them with an older person who they visit weekly to provide some much needed social contact.

Most of our clients live alone, with no family nearby, their friends have passed away and they have health issues which prevent them socializing outside their homes.

This can lead to lack of motivation and depression and affect the persons health. Our wonderful visitors spend an hour or more each week visiting the person in their home, chatting over a cuppa and providing some company.

The Visitor may also take them out for a drive, a change of scenery or a visit to a local café for a treat. The bond that develops between both parties is a real bonus and makes a lonely person’s day more enjoyable.
