Raumati South Repair Cafe - 2023 Volunteer Story Comp

Raumati South Repair Cafe grew from an idea to build community in 2022. A group of 6 locals got together to organise the RepairCafe for Kāpiti which would be held in Tennis Court Road Community Centre on 18 September.

Calling for volunteers to help do Repairs, 40 locals offered to help out. These volunteers do electrical and electronic repairs, sewing repairs, bike repairs, take your luck general repairs, and tool sharpening.

We also use local groups to run the food cafe so that there is a fund raising opportunity too. We aim to keep loved items out of landfill.

We have run 4 repair cafes with great success. Over 80 people attend each event and we repair over 120 items a time.

Working together our team of volunteers are making a difference to our community. We are a happy bunch of a variety of age groups with different skills. We arebuilding community by providing a friendly environment where many different people can come together.
