Once, I was able to volunteer at KWC until my chronic health problems got in the way. Under the superb leadership of Louise and others who provide many services for women needing a warm welcome, a listening ear, a hot drink, information and support, clothing, library books and clean toilets. The Woman's Refuge is always there as well for those in crisis, served by vibrant, well-trained volunteer workers around the clock.
A Research Study by Harvard University has shown that those 50 years old or older, who volunteer for 2 to 3 hours weekly have a considerably lower risk of death. We always feel better when we've done something good for someone else and this adds to our well-being and happiness.
New Zealand society would simply crash if it wasn't for the volunteers in our communities.
As humans we all need a sense of purpose to help avoid depression, loneliness and a feeling of uselessness.
There are regular Training Courses for the volunteers to help others win through, contact KWC on 04-9026-222 to join the team and make it your "Time to Shine".
Not only can you serve your Kāpiti community you will also "Help to Heal the World" (with apologies to Michael Jackson). I know that I was able to help heal women during my time at KWC while enjoying the company of some awesome people. " I think it is the ability to know that KWC is there for you every step of the way, every weekday and 24/7 every day for Women's Refuge.
