National Volunteer Week runs from 19-25 June 2022 and honours the collective energies and mana of all our volunteers in Aotearoa.

This year, National Volunteer Week coincides with the new public holiday for Matariki (24 June). Matariki is the time many Māori and an ever-growing number of Tauiwi in Aotearoa and around the world gather family and friends and reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.

National Volunteer week, theme is ‘Time to Shine / He wā whakawhiti.’ Let’s take the time to reflect / whaiwhakaaro on all those who give mahi aroha / volunteer for their communities. It’s a time to recognise and celebrate volunteers, a time to shine / whakawhiti.

Over this week, we want to celebrate the contribution that volunteers and volunteer teams make in our Kāpiti community. Volunteers have made a vital contribution connecting our community, especially recently when extra connection and support has been needed over COVID. Though sharing volunteer stories, we want everyone to recognise the difference volunteers make in our community, inspire more people to volunteer and celebrate the collective mahi aroha that supports our Kāpiti community.
