Happy National Volunteer Week (19-25 June). Over Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu / National Volunteer week, there is so much to celebrate! It’s a time to recognise volunteers and a time to shine/pīata.
Starting with Volunteer Kāpiti’s very own volunteers. We are very thankful to have great volunteers in a diversity of roles across Volunteer Kāpiti including: Board Members, Volunteer Advisors, Youth Advisors, Governance Mentor Project Coordination and Te Reo training. Often family members help out as well including our teen children with social media/design advice.
In preparation for this week, we asked our volunteers what they like about volunteering with us and made their feedback into the star picture above. Connection and Community was a reoccurring theme. Our volunteers are at the heart of this connection and bring their passion and commitment to the community that they serve. All our volunteers are stars!
To celebrate this week accross the Kāpiti community we held a Volunteer Story Competition. We received 16 entries all with great stories to tell about volunteering in Kāpiti. The winners were Challenge for Change Kāpiti. You can read their story and the other entries here
We are grateful to be part of a network of Volunteer Centres all around Aotearoa and alongside Volunteering New Zealand, it is one big week of celebrating volunteers. The power of volunteering and its contribution towards the economy, social cohesion and community wellbeing was addressed by Minister Radhakrishnan at the start of this week.
Thank you to everyone that volunteers across Kāpiti, everyone of you makes a difference and contributes to a thriving Kāpiti community.
