This project is an initiative of Community Governance NZ in partnership with Mentoring Foundation New Zealand. The programme ran in Kāpiti as a pilot last year. Everyone who participated in the programme said they would recommend the programme to others.
The success of the programme is largely due to the careful matching that takes place to make sure the Mentee is matched with a Mentor that has the skills and experience relevant to the needs of the Mentee and their organisation. Being on a governing board can be a steep learning curve. Having the guidance along the way can make all the difference, it can add to your confidence and equip you with the tools to make a positive difference in the leadership of your community group.
The programme runs for 6 months, with an orientation event planned for 1 June. Mentors/Mentees meet at least 6 times over this 6-month period, along with three group events. The Mentor/Mentee meetings are flexible to fit around everyone’s needs and can also be online if needed.
